Ylläsjärvi Tunturi Hotel is a perfect holiday center for nature loving guests! Hotel is set by the beautiful lake in the small village of Ylläsjärvi on the south side of mountain Ylläs, only 30 minutes from Kittilä airport and Kolari railway station. Shop, grill, restaurants, souvenir shop and Ylläs Adventures Safari House are located about 300-400 metres from the hotel.
Ylläsjärvi Tunturi Hotel was earlier called Karjalaliiton Maja (the Karelian Lodge), as it was originally built in 1968 for the recreation lodge for Karelian people and owned by. Hotel building itself has an important role in the tourism development of Ylläs. It was the first commercial tourism building in the village and it also held for decades the drinking water storage for the inhabitants of the village. Karelian people were very active in developing the tourism of the area and they also helped to build infrastructure of the village like asphalt road and electricity.
In the beginning of 1990’s the lodge was enlarged and it changed its name into Ylläsjärven Tunturihotelli (fell hotel). Karelians were still the most important customers but hotel opened the doors also to other tourists who were seeking an inexpensive accommodation and home style cooking close to cross-country ski and hiking trails and other services in Ylläs.
We at Ylläs Adventures started to run the hotel in 2011 and made small renovations, decorations and paint work for the interiors, still keeping some of the Karelian heritage like interesting hotel room signs and collection of Karelian books and handcrafts. Today Ylläsjärvi Tunturi Hotel is a cosy activity hotel for both international and Finnish guests who want to explore the wonders of the Arctic nature both in the winter and summer.
