                                    Ylläs is our back yard!

Tunturi Hotels location is perfect for versatile activities. Viewing the Northern Lights, ice-fishing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, right from the hotel front doors, by the beautiful lake Ylläsjärvi and next to national park of Pallas-Yllästunturi. In the summer, admire the midnight sun and nightless night and feel the magic of overall peace and quiet!

WINTER ACTIVITIES

Northern Lights

Lake Ylläsjärvi is perfect place to see the Northern Lights – Aurora Borealis. When the weather is clear and the sky is dark, just walk few metres from the hotel front doors to the lake ice where you can admire bright stars, Milkyway and maybe if you are lucky enough, the beautiful Northern Lights are dancing in the sky. Northern Lights can be seen also through the windows of some of the hotel rooms. We also organise Northern Lights safaris by snowmobiles or snowshoes!

Ice-fishing

You can rent ice-fishing equipment from our Safari House about 300 metres from the hotel. Lake Ylläsjärvi is located at the hotel front doors. Ice-fishing is fun for the whole family!
Snowshoeing is a fun way to explore the wonders of the winter nature. 4km long snowshoe trail starts from the hotel back yard and heads through the snowy forest, over the frozen wetlands and climbing up the steep small hills to the wilderness café. At the café you can see reindeer and enjoy a cup of hot drink and snacks. Trail is ease to follow and you can buy a map from the reception.

Nordic Skiing

Did you ever try the sports that is said to be the best exercise ever? No matter if you are a beginner or a pro Ylläs is the place for nordic skiing.  In Ylläs you will find  350 km large network of nordic skiing tracks.The tracks run right next to our hotel and are lighted up until 10 pm. Hire skies and ski for a hot drink and doughnut to the nearby wilderness cafe or challenge yourself to ski around the Ylläs mountain! If you are a beginner or just want to enjoy a good company take part to our nordic skiing lessons and guided skiing tours.  You can also try the Aurinkotupa skifarm just 3 km away from our hotel.  In the farm you can practise both skating and classic skiing, have a drink inside in the cafe or outside by the fireplace or just have fun on the tobogganing slide! Our hotel offers the facilities for waxing your skies.  There is also the possibility to borrow our skies, hire sledges and buy a skiing track map (10€ ) at our hotel reception

Snowmobiling

Feel the speed and spot the wildlife in the woods whilst driving your skidoo. Snowmobilig is a great way to experience the arctic wilderness of western Lapland! You can either hire a snowmobile or take part to a safari that suits for you! Check our weekly activities programme descriptions for more information about the snowmobile safaries we offer and find the safari of your lifetime.  The snowmobile rental prices you will find here. Naturally we also provide the suitable gear for a chilly snowmobile ride.

Kicksledding

The scandinavian speciality “kicksled” is not only a fun way of getting to know the surroundings of Ylläsjärvi village but it is also fast and handy when doing groceries or souvenir shopping in the village. Kicksled is a small sled consisting of a chair attached on a pair of flexible metal skids which extend backward. Kicksled sure looks funny but is worth to try!  Rent a kicksled only with 12 € a day !

Reindeer and Husky rides

We organise reindeer safaries two times a week.  Reindeer rides are suitable for people in all ages! Have a look at our weekprogramme and find a safari for you. Reindeer safaries suit for people looking for a romantic, peaceful and cosy ride.  You can also join a reindeer safari just to learn about the lives of reindeer.  If you only like to see, photograph or feed reindeer make a visit to the nearby wilderness cafe Aurinkotupa. Go to Aurinkotupa by feet, snowshoes, skies or car.Huskyride is all about arctic speed and energy! We offer several types of husky excursions and also short rides at our Ylläs Adventures safarihouse. Off-track skiing

Try the traditional way of skiing.  Do as our ancestors did and put on the wooden skies and experience nature and wildlife as its purest. Instead of regular nordic skiing on maintained ski tracks you will head to the deep snow in forest.  Rent skies and boots for only 12 € a day and go out to the wilderness. Try out a route that takes you to a log hut in the middle of the woods or experience the Lappish forrest from a new perspective and go skiing at night on the moonlight!

Relax and treat yourself in the saunaworld!

Log house Jussan Pirtti ,smoke and electric saunas ,hot outdoor pool and ice hole are waiting for you just a short walk away from the hotel. Experience an evening in  an authentic Lappish frame! Treat yourself with a hardy dinner in the log house Jussan Pirtti, warm up in the smoke sauna and feel the unique smells and atmosphere of the finnish speciality and cool down in the ice hole and feel the relaxing effect of the hot outdoor pool under the stars. You can spend the whole evening in the saunaworld or enjoy each activity separately.

Laplander’s Hut

Laplander’s hut is a tipi-like hut that you only see in Lapland. You will find a Laplander’s hut just at the hotel frontyard.  In the hut you can grill sausage or just relax on the bonfire.  On request, we organise Lappish ceremonies and get-together evenings with coffee and pancakes at the hut.

Snowfun!

Are you travelling with a group of friends, work mates, school group or a big family? Do you feel like challenging your travel mates on a game that requires a bit of wits, condition and loads of sense of humour! We organise all kinds of fun winter games and programmes for groups and people with competitive nature. Make your stay, conference or schooltrip unforgettable and take part to snow football, Lappish Olympic Games, ice-floating  or ice fishing etc.

Christmas Programmes

Did you ever meet the real Santa?  We organize Christmas programmes in December and later on winters for anybody wanting to get into Christmas spirit! Search for Santa by snowmobiles or by car! If you have been good, we guarantee you will find him. For groups on our secret location we organize Santa search, Christmas decoration making, reindeer and huskyrides , ginger bread baking and snowfun!

SUMMER ACTIVITIES

Paddling and rowing

Ylläsjärvi lake is a beautiful Lappish lake with a magnificent view to the Ylläs fell.  Row across the lake and stop for a coffee or picnic in one of the two small islands.Try kayaking or canoeing and challenge yourself to paddle around the lake. Rent a boat, kayak or canoe from us. In addition, we organise transfers to the other lakes and rivers of the area.  

Fishing

Try fishing in Ylläsjärvi lake or Ylläs river.  Lake Ylläsjärvi is just next to Ylläsjtärvi Tunturi hotel and no permission is required for fishing in the lake. You can  rent fishing equipment from us. Tornio-Muonio river at the boarder facing to Sweden is famous for its salmon population and is only about 50 km distance from Ylläsjärvi Tunturi hotel.

Attractions

If you are traveling by car go and have a look at the following attractions to see a little more of the beautiful Lapland. Ylläs Scenery road, Hell of Lapland, Äkäsmylly, Äkässaivo, Road of the fells, Bird tower of Ylläslompolo, Pyhäjärvi lake, Aakenus road, Kellokas Visitor Center.  Ask for more detailed driving instructions from the hotel reception.

Nordic walking

Ylläs offers great outdoor tracks and roads for nordic walking.  Have a look at Nordic Fitness Sport Park and buy a hiking trail map from the reception.  If you don't want to go out to the nature all by yourself take part to a nordic walking lesson and guided walk.

National park of Ylläs-Pallas and Kellokas Visitor Center

The 3rd largest national Park of Finland invites you for a visit. The national park boarders cross just 2 km from the hotel. Magnificent nature, animals and network of hiking trails is a must see if visiting Ylläs! Before or after your visit to the National park visit Kellokas the Visitor Center and get to know more about the national Park and all the wonders it offers.
